Commercial areas

Historically speaking, the southern commercial area is the oldest. Traditionally, many industrial firms were located here. In terms of structure, they were mainly medium-sized and owner-managed. These still exist, but production – as in all cities and communities – has decreased. The southern commercial area is currently undergoing restructuring to accommodate the service sector, which is exhibiting stronger and stronger growth. Today, almost 80% of workers are employed in this sector. In the eastern commercial area, this trend was evident from the beginning. Office buildings are the dominant presence here. Used as locations for service providers, high-tech companies and IT companies, they make a powerful impression with their modern and attractive architecture.

There were no more new industrial estates designated on the land utilisation plan that were for sale undeveloped at the time of going to press. New settlement is therefore possible by reusing land. Project developers have recently completed some high-quality developments on land which has been vacated.

Currently the western commercial area (Gehespitz) is being developed into a logistics centre. Land is available now on this site.
