Ferdinand B. was born in Dinkelsbühl. Together with his brother he grew up there along with his parents. His father was a merchant. Immediately before the family emigrated to the United States, the parents brought the six-year Ferdinand to the Home of the Jewish Women's Association in Neu-Isenburg temporarily.
In October 1935, the family emigrated from Frankfurt to the United States. Ferdinand worked there despite the poor economic conditions to start a college education. Today he is a renowned scientist and university professor.
