Thea Goldschmidt, née Jammer, was born on October 2, 1904, in Hamburg. Her parents were Eduard and Jenny Jammer.
In 1929, she married Walter Goldschmidt. They moved to Frankfurt am Main, to Schumanns 10. Thea Goldschmidt became Bertha Pappenheim’s social welfare secretary at the 'Isenburg' home and assisted Bertha Pappenheim and Helene Krämer.
The couple had two children: Eva and Ernst Michael. When Thea Goldschmidt traveled to Dortmund to find out what had become of her parents, Michael Ernst, who was only two years old at the time, was admitted to the “Isenburg” home. He is also mentioned in this memorial book.
Both children came to Great Britain in 1939 on the Kindertransport. Thea Goldschmidt followed them to Great Britain, probably also in 1939. There, she initially worked as a maid until she was able to move in with her husband in a room. He, too, had fled to Great Britain in 1939.
In early 1940, Walter Goldschmidt was interned on the Isle of Man as an enemy alien. At the end of 1943, he was sent to Australia. During this time, Thea Goldschmidt lived with Eva’s foster parents until she found a new job as a housekeeper on a farm.
After Walter Goldschmidt’s internment, he brought his family to Australia.
1944 kam das dritte Kind, Thomas, zur Welt.
1947 erhielten die Goldschmidt die britische Staatsbürgerschaft.
