Names

Stern, Else (Elsa)

Else Stern is born on April 27, 1923 in Marburg/Lahn. She is the daughter of Hilda (Hilde) Stern, born in Hochstadt in 1904, the sister of Marianne and Irene Stern, the niece of Hedwig Stern and the cousin of Paula and Rudolf Ruben Stern. They are all listed in this memorial book.

Else Stern was born at the University Women's Clinic in Marburg. Her mother was unmarried and came from Hochstadt in the district Hanau (now the Main-Kinzig-district). She worked as a 'domestic servant'. The referral to the Women's Clinic at Marburg University Hospital suggests a difficult pregnancy. Marburg University Hospital, with its attached midwifery school, had specialized in obstetrics since 1800 with the establishment of maternity ward.

According to the birth record, the official names of the mother and child were 'Hilde' and 'Else'.

Else Stern was one year old when she was taken from Marburg on June 5, 1924 into the care of the Home 'Isenburg'. On June 25, 1925 Else was taken to the children's home of the Frankfurt Deaconess House, which was located in Holzhausenstraße.

Else Stern arrived at the Home 'Isenburg' for a second time on January 6, 1936. This time she came to Neu-Isenburg from Alzenau in Lower Franconia.

On December 1, 1939 she was deregistered from Neu-Isenburg and moved to Frankfurt, Wöhlerstraße 6. This was the site (as were house numbers 8 and 13) of a Jewish old people's home, which from the start of the war was misused as a Nazi assembly camp for deportations.

She last lived at Rechneigraben 18/20 in Frankfurt/Main. This was the site of a Jewish retirement home, which was used in August/September 1942 as an assembly point for deportations to concentration and extermination camps.

On September 24, 1942 she was deported from Frankfurt/Main to the Raasiku extermination camp, near Tallinn (Estonia) and, on August 23, 1944, onwards to the Stutthof concentration camp.

The date and place of her death are unknown.
